Chemo, Molecular Therapy and Travel

Posted in From Al & Libbie, Updates at 7:59 pm by Al

I recommenced the targeted molecular therapy this morning (Wednesday, April 5) at half the previous dosage. Lord willing, this time around it will be a dosage I can tolerate.

I finished the second round of chemo therapy yesterday. I feel it more this time around–general malaise and fatigue, but it’s not so severe as to compromise functioning.

We are traveling to visit my parents in Florida for spring break and then back to Philly in time for me to have a CT scan on April 17 to determine the impact of the treatment thus far. The interpretation of the results will not be available to us until Tuesday, April 25th.

As always, thanks for your prayers.

Al

We’ll be praying for your travel, friends. And Al, I’m especially praying, as you mentioned, regarding your priorities. I know that, for me, that would be very difficult.

Hoping to make it down on the 19th to hear Chris Seitz, but not looking good right now.

    Love you guys!

    Dear Dr. Groves,

My prayers are with you and your family. As you may know I spent the first two-thirds of my life undergoing surgeries to correct problems that afflicted me at birth. Approximately 50 operations in 20 years. During that time I questioned and doubted God’s wisdom and will. I asked the inevitable question, why me? Yet during that same time God showed himself faithful. He revived my faith time and again. He revealed that all he ordained for me was for his glory. That humbled me and he has reminded me time and again that whatever I endure is for his glory.

May you know the same certainty, within your suffering resides the glory of God! That does not make the suffering we endure easier, but it does make it purposeful and the place where we find the strength that only God provides in the midst of it.

    In his love,
    Paul Sweeney

    Dear Al,

I went to the WTS website this morning to get some particular information to congratulate you properly on becoming VP of Academic Affairs and just learned of your illness. I will keep you and your family in prayers as you deal with the cancer and for Libbie as well as she makes this journey with you, but also for her on-going dental problem. If there is more that I can do in addition to prayer, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    paz,

    Ed Aponte

Taking you daily to our Father’s throne. Practical suggestion on book writing: Give yourself 30 minutes each day to talk your ideas into a machine. Speech is faster and someone else can always type it out. You can even say where you would go with an idea without fleshing out every part.

Al you are always remembered before His merciful seat in my prayers.I also found these statements encouraging and thought you might also wish to ponder over them.
    Happy moments, praise God!
    Difficult moments, seek God!
    Quiet moments, worship God!
    Painful moments, trust God!
    Every moment, thank God!
May God keep you safe. Happy Easter!

    Philip.

    Brother Al,

I just learned about your cancer recently, and checking in on the WTS web page this morning, I saw your name and was reminded to pray for you. I also saw the excellent article by Piper. May the Lord be glorified through you. Many wonderful comments by your friends. Times lke this bring them out.
